As you go out on the ultimate challenge—the summit attempt—be ready for an early start. With your will and the dim illumination of your headlamp as your guides, ascend beneath the starry sky. This part of the journey is the most physically and mentally taxing. At this altitude and time of day, the wind and cold can be severe.
We take regular but brief stops as we climb for several hours in the dark. You will be rewarded with the most spectacular sunrise you will ever see when it crosses Mawenzi Peak at Gilman's Point (18,600 feet). Before starting the descent to Horombo Hut, experience the thrill of reaching Africa's highest peak, Uhuru Peak.
